Safe diabetes care
Diabeter delivers outstanding diabetes care by placing a strong emphasis on both quality and patient safety.

This is how Diabeter enables the highest standard of diabetes care.
At Diabeter, safety and quality are our top priorities.
It’s no coincidence that we’ve been awarded the prestigious Gold Quality Mark by Qualicor Europe.
This recognition reflects our commitment to creating a safe environment for people with type 1 diabetes, as well as for our staff, visitors, and all others involved. At Diabeter, we foster a culture of continuous improvement in both quality and safety. Our carefully designed processes ensure that the diabetes care we provide is always responsible and reliable.
Diabeter: Personal and compassionate diabetes care
In 2022, three independent researchers conducted a thorough evaluation of the quality of type 1 diabetes care at Diabeter. They spoke with healthcare professionals, staff, patients, and their families. This assessment earned Diabeter the prestigious Gold Quality Mark from Qualicor Europe—a testament to our commitment to excellence.
The research team also shared several noteworthy compliments:
- Diabeter’s team is passionate and genuinely engaged.
- We offer personalized, tailored diabetes care, empowering individuals with type 1 diabetes and their families to actively participate in care decisions.
- We invest in comprehensive education for both our staff and the people we treat.
- Our fully integrated quality system ensures that care standards are consistently upheld.
Regular Quality Checks
Diabeter’s Gold Quality Mark from Qualicor Europe is valid through August 2027. In the meantime, a Qualicor team visits Diabeter every 20 months for a thorough review. These regular evaluations help us continuously improve as a center for type 1 diabetes care.
A structured approach to safe diabetes care
At Diabeter, we believe diabetes care should enhance the quality of life for both children and adults living with type 1 diabetes. That’s why safety and quality are at the heart of everything we do.
Our Safety Management System (SMS) provides the foundation for delivering safe, high-quality care. Through this system, we identify and assess potential risks, helping us proactively prevent issues in diabetes treatment. This includes regular audits and evaluations of both our care processes and our team, ensuring that every aspect of our service meets rigorous safety standards.
PROMs: Patient-Reported Outcomes
At Diabeter, patient safety is a top priority. It’s a standard part of our diabetes care approach. We take the experiences of our patients seriously, as they offer valuable insights that help us continuously improve our care.
To capture these insights, we use PROMs—Patient Reported Outcome Measures. These tools measure patients’ health status and quality of life from their own perspective. By repeating these assessments regularly, we can track changes over time and respond proactively.
Ideas for Improvement
We also welcome suggestions from patients and their families. If you have ideas to help us enhance the quality and safety of our care, feel free to reach out to us: kwaliteitenveiligheid@diabeter.nl
Verifying patient identity
In the Netherlands, healthcare providers are legally required to verify a patient’s identity—this is known as the identification requirement. It ensures that we always access the correct medical records for the right individual.
To meet this standard, our medical assistants, diabetes nurses, and physicians will always ask for your first name, last name, and date of birth before providing care.
Identity Card or Passport
When visiting Diabeter for the first time, we always ask for a valid form of identification—this can be an identity card, passport, or driver’s license. This allows us to verify each patient’s identity with confidence. The type of ID and its corresponding number are recorded in your medical file.
Contact by Email or Phone
Even during phone or online contact, our staff must verify who they are speaking with. That’s why we always ask for your first name, last name, and date of birth during phone calls.
When emailing Diabeter, it’s also important to include your full name and date of birth. Without this information, we unfortunately cannot respond to your inquiry in detail.
Reporting domestic violence and child abuse
In the Netherlands, every healthcare organization is required to have a clear protocol outlining how to handle cases of domestic violence and child abuse. This includes recognizing signs and reporting concerns appropriately.
At Diabeter, we have appointed a designated safeguarding officer who serves as the point of contact for staff, patients, and their families regarding any concerns related to domestic violence or child abuse.
