Better diabetes care through innovation

Since 2006, Diabeter has been working towards the best possible diabetes care by focusing entirely on type 1 diabetes. It began with care for children with diabetes, but today, the specialists at our diabetes center treat people of all ages.

Diabeter’s mission has always remained the same:
Empowering people with type 1 diabetes to live a healthy life.

Diabeter Through the Years

Founded in 2006 by medical specialists Henk-Jan Aanstoot and Henk Veeze, Diabeter began with a clear mission: to improve diabetes care for children and create a future free from complications. To achieve this, the center focused exclusively on type 1 diabetes.

Over time, Diabeter has grown substantially. The demand for a dedicated center for people with type 1 diabetes proved to be significant. What started as pediatric care has evolved into comprehensive treatment for individuals of all ages living with type 1 diabetes.

Accessible to All

Diabeter now operates four specialized type 1 diabetes centers in Rotterdam, Deventer, Eindhoven, and Groningen.

In addition, Diabeter collaborates with Amsterdam UMC through the Diabeter Centrum Amsterdam.

This nationwide network ensures that Diabeter’s multidisciplinary care for type 1 diabetes is accessible to people across the Netherlands.

Diabeter and Medtronic

Since 2015, Diabeter has been part of the American healthcare company Medtronic. This strategic partnership was formed with a clear goal: to enhance Diabeter’s personalized approach to type 1 diabetes care and accelerate its international growth. Together, we aim to make high-quality care accessible to more people living with type 1 diabetes.

Medtronic also plays a vital role in advancing Diabeter’s digital infrastructure. Through innovations in information technology and remote care solutions, we’re making diabetes treatment more comfortable, efficient, and accessible.

DIABETES CARE REMAINS INDEPENDENT

The acquisition does not affect Diabeter’s independence. Our diabetes teams retain full autonomy when it comes to medical decisions in the treatment of people with type 1 diabetes.

Patients receiving care at Diabeter can also choose, in consultation with our specialists, which medical devices they prefer to use.

Your Personal Data Is Protected

Medtronic does not have access to the medical records of individuals receiving care at Diabeter. All personal information is securely stored within a protected medical environment. Diabeter strictly complies with government regulations and follows international Good Clinical Practice (GCP) guidelines to ensure the highest standards of data privacy and patient safety.

Client Council

Diabeter’s Client Council advocates for what matters most to individuals receiving care at one of our specialized type 1 diabetes centers. The council includes people living with type 1 diabetes and parents of children with type 1 diabetes who are treated at Diabeter.

By law, the Client Council has the right to provide both solicited and unsolicited advice to Diabeter.
