Client Council

The client council of Diabeter advocates for the interests of children, young people, parents, and adults who are receiving treatment at Diabeter.

There is a quarterly consultation with the Board of Directors and the medical director. In addition, members of the client council hold internal discussions and also consult with Diabeter staff.

ABOUT THE CLIENT COUNCIL

Better diabetes care, clear communication, and respectful treatment

At Diabeter, the Client Council plays a key role in shaping the quality of care. It is made up of individuals receiving treatment and parents of children with type 1 diabetes who are under Diabeter’s care.

The council offers valuable insights and recommendations to help Diabeter deliver the highest standard of type 1 diabetes care. These contributions are made both in response to requests and on the council’s own initiative.

What does the client council do?

Every major healthcare organization in the Netherlands is required to have a client council. This council plays an important role by representing everyone receiving care at Diabeter.

It fulfills this role by offering both solicited and unsolicited advice to Diabeter on topics that matter to people living with type 1 diabetes.

The council meets four times a year for formal discussions. In between, there are regular consultations between the council, Diabeter’s leadership, and staff.

Clear Communication and Focus on Technology

The Client Council pays special attention to new forms of communication between Diabeter and those receiving care. Digital contact and remote care solutions—such as CloudCare—are part of this focus. The council believes it is essential for Diabeter to stay informed about emerging technologies in the field of type 1 diabetes and diabetes care.

Annual Satisfaction Survey

In collaboration with the Client Council, Diabeter conducts an annual survey to assess how satisfied patients are with their treatment at our diabetes centers. This research helps the council better understand which topics matter most to patients. Diabeter also uses the survey results to continuously improve care for people with type 1 diabetes.

Members of the Client Council of Diabeter

Douschka Motmans (CHAIRPERSON AS OF OCTOBER 1, 2024):

“I’m 49 years old and have lived with type 1 diabetes for 36 of those years. I have two healthy children and live with my partner in Rotterdam. I work as a business development manager and enjoy sports, good food, and spending time with others.

I want to contribute my personal experience and professional knowledge to Diabeter’s Client Council. My goal is to challenge Diabeter to continuously provide the best possible treatment for as many children and adults with type 1 diabetes as possible. I’m happy to work with Diabeter in a structured and strategic way.”

Lieke Kampman:

"My name is Lieke Kampman, I’m 25 years old and I work in marketing and communications. I’ve had diabetes since 2010 and have been receiving care at Diabeter in Rotterdam since my diagnosis. Although living with diabetes isn’t easy, my experience with Diabeter has always been positive. Through the Client Council, I’m committed to helping improve care even further, with a special focus on the experiences of young people and young adults."

ANNET TEN BRUG:

"My name is Annet ten Brug, born in 1986, and I work as a university lecturer in orthopedagogy. We have a wonderful blended family and split our time between Groningen and Amersfoort. In 2024, my 10-year-old daughter was diagnosed with type 1 diabetes, and we turned to Diabeter for care. I wasn’t unfamiliar with diabetes, as my younger brother was also diagnosed with type 1 diabetes at a young age.

Through the Client Council, I want to use my lived experience to help improve diabetes care. While diabetes has the greatest impact on my daughter, it also brings significant changes for the rest of the family. I hope to bring their perspectives into the conversation through my role."

Tom van Remmen:

"I’m 30 years old and work as a sustainability project leader at a construction company. I live in Deventer and enjoy repairing and driving classic cars. I’ve had type 1 diabetes for 11 years and have been receiving care at Diabeter for the past 4 years. I’m very satisfied with the treatment I receive.

Through the Client Council, I want to contribute ideas on how Diabeter can best support people with type 1 diabetes. I’m especially interested in the rapid development of new technologies, which I believe will significantly transform care in the coming years. I hope to contribute both as someone living with type 1 diabetes and through my technical and organizational background."
